Grandpa Elliot was a veteran musician well-known for his amazing sound but also his trademark red shirts, overalls, and floppy hat. He was a part of the vibrant New Orleans street music scene. Born in the Treme neighborhood, Grandpa Elliot was steeped in music both from his mother’s Classical music and his uncle’s Rhythm & Blues and Rock’n’roll. His uncle, a musician playing with the Ink Spots at the Dew Drop Inn gave Elliot his first harmonica. He learned how to play harmonica while listening to the radio. Elliot was a co-founder of Play for Change, made globally famous with their rendition of “Stand by Me.” The song went viral and has over 177 million views.
